This morning I did something I have never done before. I packed with only 1 hour before I HAD to leave for the airport. When I say "HAD", I mean absolutely not a minute to spare. It looked like a mini bomb went off in each room.
A bit of background will help you understand the gravity of my short time window...I’ve been charged and found guilty with crimes of punctuality, so getting out of the house in a relaxed mode is completely unheard of in my world and it normally takes me 5 HOURS to pack. Don’t ask, I simply have weird packing rituals. Ok ok, well if you really want to know you can ask and I will explain. Take note;)
Setting the scene: I had decided that it was important to get in a 20 minute run in, even though all my food that I pre-cooked for the first 5 days of this trip was still in the fridge and not fully prepared. Also, I had 2 pieces of luggage empty waiting to be filled, 1 personal bag and 1 occupational bag. As you can see, lots to do still.
My personal bag consists of enough workout outfits for the number of days away; for this particular leg of the trip, 5 workout outfits, 5 "going out"/ work outfits and 3 sets of shoes (runners, fancy sandals and 1 pair of black heels).
A goal I regularly have is to carry the same amount of toiletries a man would carry. And I’m getting pretty close; 1 small toiletry bag and a hairdryer diffuser made the cut. As well, my computer, books, camera, music, necessary travel papers and lip balm go into my carry on.
My occupation bag holds a lot more: 1 single stove type element, hand blender, kettle, pot, power adaptors, various food containers and utensils, cups, mugs, straws, non perishable foods (teas, supplements, nuts, protein powder, rice, gluten free bread), 2 coolers (a small cooler and a large cooler on wheels), exercise ball, trx bands, skipping rope, yoga mat and my food for 5 days.Wheww!
Wowza, I went off a bit there...Ok so I finished my run, dropped off my coat to the dry cleaners, did some banking, showered, packed, quazi cleaned my house (sadly busted my glass tea pot) and was in a cab within the hour. Nice eh!
Now to the good stuff. Heading to Miami Beach and really looking forward to the heat and sun. As soon as we arrived, I remember why I and so many other people love and gravitate to this city. The air is sweet and the humidity is the perfect warmth that keeps you cozy to your core.
After check in, Kathryn (my glam squad partner in crime) and I rolled up to a shopping center to pick up some clothes for our client. www.balharbourshops.com It was super fancy and I was so severely underdressed that I really had to pretend “derelict” was the new ultra high fashion statement. This mall had all the highest end stores all put together in one.
I sat in the "boyfriend chair", (you know they one your guy sits in while you shop) while Kathryn happily explored until they called overhead the store was closing...music to my ears.
Cab back to the hotel and immediately to the gym for a workout on legs (workout posted on FB) followed by a very Zen Yoga session.
